This year, a wave of new company tax disclosures is coming in response to increased transparency requirements from US accounting standards, the European Union, and Australia. Because the data will be messy and poorly suited for drawing strong conclusions, the data the new rules require companies to produce can easily be misinterpreted.

Tax Foundation will host a webinar exploring the challenges posed by these disclosures, including their history, connection to the tax policy debate, and the weaknesses of the data. While policy leaders should seek to use data to clarify policy questions, it is critical to understand where data sources might present a picture that differs from reality.
